Zero Carbon Buildings Minister visits the Mill
Scottish Government Deputy First Minister Patrick Harvie MSP joined IndiNature team to bring first products off the line.
On the eve of COP27, Minister for Zero Carbon Buildings Patrick Harvie MSP visited IndiNature’s new Mill in Jedburgh to discuss Scotland’s Net Zero challenges and how IndiNature is helping to meet global climate commitments.
Meeting the team and getting stuck in bringing first natural fibre insulation products off the line, Mr Harvie explored the high-capacity production facility and quality labs.
Patrick Harvie MSP said: “Developing climate-friendly solutions to heat and insulate our homes should be seen not only as a challenge which must be met to deliver on our climate obligations, but as a substantial opportunity for the sector and the wider economy.
“I was pleased to visit IndiNature to find out more about their innovative, sustainable insulation products and wish the team every success as it continues to develop, grow and support the acceleration of our green heat industry.”
The IndiNature Mill, creating a new cleantech future, has been established with support from South of Scotland Enterprise, Scottish EDGE, Unlocking Ambition, ECCI & Climate-KIC, The Scottish National Investment Bank and Zero Waste Scotland.
South of Scotland Enterprise Chair, Professor Russel Griggs, said, “It is fantastic that the Scottish Borders is now home to Scotland’s first factory producing carbon negative insulation for homes and commercial properties.
“SOSE has worked closely with IndiNature for a considerable period, providing a grant of £250,000, helping develop their plans and assisting the company to find a suitable location in Jedburgh.
“With innovation and sustainability at the heart of the business, and alongside the creation of new jobs, the opening of IndiNature’s new manufacturing hub is hugely welcome news for the Scottish Borders. It also fits perfectly with the South of Scotland Regional Economic Strategy’s vision for a green, fair and flourishing region.”
Leading UK sustainable building materials distributor EcoMerchant’s CEO Will Kirkman added, “After more than 25 years supplying sustainable building materials across the UK we’re delighted to support new indigenous manufacturing of natural fibre insulation. Great timing for IndiNature’s first products adding to our supply in the UK as we’re seeing the market shift towards natural fibre insulation for healthier buildings and lower embodied carbon.”
IndiTherm hemp insulation is now available to purchase through specialist insulation distributors UK wide, with further distributors to be announced soon.
