Islay Passivhaus

Case Study: Thermal and Acoustic New Build

Location

Isle of Islay

Project Summary

This was a contemporary Passivhaus build by self-builder Ross McCraig, working with Paper igloo Architects on his rural house build, Eala Dubh. The build took advantage of IndITherm hemp insulation's excellent acoustic sound dampening qualities within separating floors plus thermal insulation in the roof space.

Chosen for its acoustic performance as well as healthy and low carbon properties, one of the advantages to using this semi-rigid insulation is it's resistance to slumping and bending when installed overhead (see the photos in the ceiling joists).
